
IWA’s workplace literacy classes equip low-income Asian immigrant women workplace with English skills and political education about their rights as workers, immigrants, and women.
They gain English skills that help them respond to requests specific to their workplaces, including their jobs as home health aides and other service careers.
At the start of each semester, students select topics that they find most necessary to express their most urgent needs for English. Recent topics have included:
In response to growing needs, women leaders of AIWA also lead workplace safety trainings. Additionally, based on community demand, AIWA started a digital literacy smartphone course. Women members can increase their knowledge & skills with using the Internet and smartphones, which are increasingly required in their workplaces.
